Bulk solids mechanics
Knowledge of the mechanical characteristics of bulk materials is an indispensable condition for correct design and safe operations of processes of bulk material handling. The activity of the research group extends to research of the bases of bulk material mechanics as well as to characterisation of bulk solids regarding their behaviour during the technological process, e.g. for fluidlike construction of silos. The following contributions were and are produced in the field of basic research:
- for time consolidation of bulk materials
- for the increase in density of bulk materials under influence of oscillations and shocks
- for modelling of particle contacts
- and for the yield behaviour of chip shaped bulk materials.
Extensive experiences are present for solution of practical problems because of more than 20 years of activities in the field of bulk material technology, e.g.:
- characterisation of the rheological properties
- silo design with the aim of an undisturbed bulk solid discharge
- expert's opinions on silo projects regarding fluidlike construction of silos
- proposals for the removal of flow disturbances in existing plants.
Modern equipped laboratories (see [ID laboratory_of_bulk_solids]laboratory of bulk solids[/ID]) and a model silo (diameter: 1m) with replaceable discharge devices are available at the research group.
