Research core areas
Multiphase flowsMicro processes were analysed by experimental as well as by numerical methods in this field of research in order to make an appropriate theoretical description and modelling possible. Micro processes take place on the level of the particles and comprise
- interactions of the particles with turbulent flows
- particle impacts
- agglomeration
- bubble coalescence and decay
- drop collisions and coalescence
Direct numerical simulations as well as modern optical measuring procedures are important tools. The results are implemented into numerical methods for the flow computation with help of appropriate models. Based on the description of micro processes, this procedure makes it possible to calculate engineering processes as a whole.
Particle technology
This exploratory focus concentrates on the analysis of bulk solids with standardised methods. Here not only coarse bulk solids but also nano particles are investigated, i order to identify the bulk mechanics.
